Over one mile of County Road KK in Eau Claire County was reconstructed by HCC and its subs. This simple sand job turned into a complex matrix of low performance soil and two scraper crews to keep moving. The amount of iron on this small job probably scared the locals.
Al Johnson and his scraper crew started working three days before Ken Bork and his clan were dropped off. Both crews worked harmoniously together for three weeks on this project.
The project completion date for this job was September 1, 2006. The start date was July 7th and it was estimated to run three months, but an aggressive schedule was implemented to complete this project without penalty. The job was going as planned until the iron bomb went off at this site! It was anticipated that the additional crew was going to expedite the schedule, but an unexpected abundance of EBS adjusted the schedule once again.
The soil conditions had everyone struggling to keep moving. Occasionally the D9s couldn't even push the scrapers because they were pushing out each other. With all of the unexpected circumstances, this project was open to the public by September 1st. |
